A local program dedicated to empowering at-risk youth has unveiled its newest addition. Men in the Making held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday to officially open the doors of its new wood shop.

The space will give young men the opportunity to explore trades like woodworking, painting, and drywall.

Those skills are designed to help them become more self-sufficient and steer them away from a life of crime.

The initiative is part of the ACE Project, which is a program that provides resources to youth and families impacted by gun violence.

“We just needed more space, and so, being here is a game-changer for us. We can do a lot more. We can teach a lot more,” said Joshua Toomer, the program director for Men in the Making.

The organization’s summer program kicks off on Monday, and organizers tell WLKY that the class is already full.

The program is located at 2508 Portland Avenue in Louisville.
